Impacting Iowa's Military Families in 2010
Summary of Opportunities:
1. Military Marriage Conference, West Des Moines/Des Moines, IA - March 26-27, 2010
[PRE-DEPLOYMENT]
This conference for couples will focus on strengthening and enriching Iowa military marriages. Though designed to support couples scheduled for deployment, all military couples are welcome to attend and will enjoy the experience. These couples will be pampered with a one-night hotel stay, meals, marriage resources, entertainment by a comedian, and practical teaching sessions by marriage experts Dr. Gary & Barb Rosberg. Sponsors are needed so couples can attend for only $20.
2. 2nd Annual Walk for Military Marriage, Gray's Lake, Des Moines, IA - July 17, 2010
[PRE-DEPLOYMENT, DURING DEPLOYMENT]
The Walk for Military Marriage is a family-friendly event featuring a variety of fun activities for couples, kids, families, and the community. This event strives to raise awareness and funds to resource military marriages.
3. Military Marriage Resources
[PRE-DEPLOYMENT, DURING DEPLOYMENT, POST-DEPLOYMENT]
As donations are received, these types of resources are distributed free to military couples through chaplains:
- Pre-Loaded mp3 Player with over 20 hours of marriage strengthening content, prayers, and other encouragement for deployed and other personnel.
- Military Marriage Conference DVD sets teaching concepts like the 6 Secrets to a Lasting Love for couples unable to attend a live conference.
- Sets of Rosberg marriage books and workbooks such as The 5 Love Needs of Men & Women, Serving Love, The Great Marriage Q&A Book, and others.
4. Sustaining Support
[PRE-DEPLOYMENT, DURING DEPLOYMENT, POST-DEPLOYMENT]
- Chaplain Connection: Monthly electronic and audio messages that can be freely distributed to military personnel and spouses by their chaplains (may be added to their mp3 player); designed to strengthen marriages through a variety of innovative, practical topics.
- Innovative Videos: Cutting edge, concise video experiences for chaplains and couples on "hot topics" for their marriages.
- Small Groups: Potential military-led groups to increase support for spouses statewide as well as for couples when personnel return from deployment.
- Church Prayer Groups: Iowans from a variety of denominations who pray for deployed soldiers and their families stateside
